Jets get Smartt, Land Young Chargers Tight End

Would you believe the Jets have finally added a potential play make at tight end after years of little to no production from the position?  That’s exactly what Gang Green did by adding free agent tight end Stone Smartt from the Chargers.

The Jets like Smartt’s upside according to insider Ian Rapoport, and there’s plenty of reason why they should.  Smartt made the most of his opportunities with the Chargers, hauling in 16 of 19 targets for 208 yards.

The converted college quarterback has made the switch to tight end and managed to bring in 31 of is 45 career targets, showing he’s got the ability to locate and hang on to the football.

It’s difficult not to like the upside of a young tight end who has progressed as well as he has in transitioning from QB which began at the end of his time at Old Dominion and has carried on to the NFL.
