Jets add Journeyman DT Byron Cowart to add D-Line Depth

Hoping to bolster their thin interior defensive line, the Jets have added journeyman defensive tackle Byron Cowart. The Jets become Cowart’s fourth team in five years after spending time with the Patriots, Colts and most recently, the Bears.

The 6′ 3” 300 lb Maryland product has appeared in 51 career games (21 starts) with three teams and picked up 67 tackles and 3.5 sacks in that time.
While he’s far from being the answer the Jets need to fix their defensive tackle situation, he’ll get a shot to be a rotational defensive lineman in 2025.
Coming over from the Chicago Bears, Cowart will have some familiarity with his new home as Jets defensive line coach Eric Washington was with Cowart in Chicago last season when Cowart logged career highs in sacks and tackles for loss at 2.5 and 5 respectively.
