Justin the Jet; Fields Agrees to Deal With Gang Green

Barring any last-minute changes, Justin Fields is going to play quarterback for the New York Jets in 2025.  The story was first reported by NFL insider Ian Rapoport and it’s a 2-year deal worth up to $40 million with $30 million guaranteed.

A supremely talented athlete, Fields has struggled with consistency up to this point as a pro but has shown flashes that show why the Bears traded up to take him with the 11th overall pick back in 2021.

With both the Bears and Steelers, Fields’ greatest asset was his legs.  In 2022 he ran for 1,143 yards and has racked up a total of 2,509 rushing yards in his 50 NFL games (44 starts).

Fields had the Steelers off to a 4-2 start last season before head coach Mike Tomlin pulled the plug in favor of Russell Wilson.  It did feel as though the Steelers were “hiding” Fields at times, opting to feature their running game later in games, taking the ball out of Fields’ hands.

Since being drafted, Fields has thrown 45 touchdowns to  31 interceptions while completing 61.1 percent of his passes, so there’s work to be done from inside the pocket.
