Keith Carter out as OL Coach as Aaron Glenn Begins Cleanup

It seems Jets head coach Aaron Glenn didnβt need much time to decide which member of Robert Salehβs coaching staff was most in need of a new job. Glenn and the Jets have parted ways with offensive line coach Keith Carter.

Hired by Saleh after being fired by Mike Vrabel in Tennessee, Carterβs results left plenty to be desired. His units have allowed forty or more sacks in six of the last seven years. While it would be unfair to put the Jets O-line failures entirely on Carter as the team dealt with a bevy of injuries in his time, he didnβt do himself any favors.
After being publicly mocked by players currently under contract, it was clear that there was a problem in the O-line room and something had to happen. Head coach Robert Saleh defended his good friend and said that Carter had to work on his communication with players. Phrasing it as βsometimes the message gets lost in the toneβ, it appeared there was in issue with the way Carter spoke to his players.
Having spent some time this past offseason working on how he communicated with his linemen, there was some improvement along the line this season, but the whole body of work wasnβt good enough for Glenn.
It opens up a hole on the staff but thereβs plenty of reason to expect his replacement to be an improvement because it would be fairly difficult to get worse.
