Jets Import Lions TE Coach to Take Over O-Line Duties

Having parted ways with offensive line coach Keith Carter earlier in the day, the Jets are filling that spot with Steve Heiden who was the tight ends coach with Aaron Glenn in Detroit.

A former NFL tight end, Heiden gets his first shot at being an offensive line coach with the Jets where he’ll inherit a talented young group. First-round pick Olu Fashanu will return at left tackle alongside John Simpson at left guard, Joe Tippmann at center, Alijah Vera-Tucker at right guard with right tackle yet to be determined.
While this will be Heiden’s first shot at running an O-line room, he’s not completely unfamiliar with the role. Back in 2018 he was an assistant offensive line coach in Arizona where the Cardinals surrendered 52 sacks on the year with Josh Rosen under center.
In terms of their ground game, the Cardinals leading rusher was David Johnson who averaged 3.6 yards per carry on 258 attempts.
