Even in an era in which players and coaches are guarded about every word that comes out of their mouths, Jets cornerback DJ Reed couldn’t bring himself to paint a pretty picture when asked about his future with the team.
Speaking after the team’s 40-14 loss to the Bills, Reed simply said “I’m ready to go to free agency, bro. I’m ready to see what’s next for me.”
While nobody should be surprised to learn that a player no longer wants to come to work for a punchline of a franchise, but rarely will a player under contract admit that they’re looking forward to leaving.
Since joining the Jets back in 2022, Reed had been a top performer at cornerback until seeing a significant dip in his play this season. Perhaps due to the firing of his biggest fan in former head coach Robert Saleh?
Either way, Reed will undoubtedly ruffle some feathers with his comments, and we’ll have to wait and see if he is in fact active for the final game of the season against the Dolphins.
