Time to Worry About Malachi Corley, or is Coaching to Blame?

Is it time for Jets fans to worry about the lack of production from rookie wide receiver Malachi Corley, or is it yet another case of Jets coaches failing to develop a young offensive player?

A rookie receiver with a limited route tree, it was understood when Corley was drafted that there were some holes in his game that would need work.  However, most likely believed he would be given a chance to get some reps doing the things he did well in college.

Corley made a living running through defenders in college as one of the best yards after catch receivers in the country.  He ate up opposing defenses by hauling in quick hitters and making plays after the catchs.

Sceptics will argue that Corley racked up big numbers against low level opponents at Western Kentucky, but that’s just plain lazy.  Just a quick look at his college production and you’ll see that Corley hauled in 20 passes for 187 yards and a touchdown in a pair of games against Ohio State and Auburn.  It’s a small sample size, but it does show that Corley wasn’t just beating up on the little guys.

As a Jet, Corley is inactive more often than not.  And when he is active, he’s watching from the sidelines.

So is Malachi Corley the problem, or is this another young offensive player who is being failed by the Jets coaching staff?
