Don’t be so Quick to Dismiss Notion of Garrett Wilson Trade
Rich Cimini of ESPN New York dropped a mid-week bombshell on his flight deck podcast in discussing Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson. According to the long-time Jets scribe, people close to Wilson expect him to request a trade this offseason.
Fans who are dismissing this possibility shouldn’t be so fast to do so. You can say that the Jets have three more years of control with Wilson all you like, but that was also the case with box safety Jamal Adams just a few years ago. How’d that work out?
It was only a couple of weeks ago that we took to twitter to say we’d be surprised if Wilson were not traded this offseason.
This isn’t because the Jets want to trade Wilson, but the guy looks about as miserable as a football player can look in just about every post game interview he does. Wilson is a competitor. He wants to win. He came from a college juggernaut at Ohio State and has now had to sit through three miserable pro seasons on a team with a fourteen year playoff drought.
Sure, whoever the Jets add at head coach will try to sell Wilson on the team’s vision for the future, but he’s heard that multiple times now.
If Wilson isn’t willing to take the bait on what the future at 1 Jets Drive holds, the Jets may end up choosing behind holding Wilson hostage, or shipping him off and hoping to get a deal that comes close to what the team got in exchange for Adams when he was sent to the Seahawks.
