Six different times this season, Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets were in position to drive down the field and score to win a game. In each of those contests they came up short and lost every single time. That streak snapped was snapped today in the Jets’ 32-25 victory.
With draft position on the line in a lost season, the Jets quarterback hopped in the DeLorean and us back to a time when he was among the top passers in the game. Rodgers would lead the Jets on a pair of fourth quarter TD drives to secure the win.
Trailing 22-17 with just under 11 minutes to play, Rodgers hit wide receiver Davante Adams on a 71-yard touchdown strike to put the Jets ahead with 3:24 remaining in the contest. After allowing the Jaguars to tie it up at 25 with a field goal, Rodgers again marched down the field with another big throw to Adams before Breece Hall ran it in for the game winning touchdown.
Despite last week’s loss to the Dolphins, this makes it two consecutive strong performances for Rodgers who is trying to show he’s still good enough to win football games while having just a few weeks to do it.
For Adams it was an unbelievable day. After getting shut out in the first half, he would go off for 9 catches and 198 yards to go along with a pair of touchdowns in the second half.
According to Rich Cimini of ESPN New York, Adams had 135 yards in a span of four minutes which is more than any player in a game this century. Not too shabby.
Rodgers would finish the day with 3 touchdown passes as he hit Garrett Wilson with his first scoring strike of the day in the first quarter.
Cornerback Sauce Gardner who missed last week after playing his best game of the season against the Seahawks had an up and down contest today but ended the game with his first interception of the year on a poorly thrown ball from Jags backup quarterback Mac Jones.
