The Jets added some depth to their secondary by poaching 2024 fifth-round draft pick Jaylin Simpson from the Indianapolis Colts practice squad after placing special team’s ace Irv Charles on injured reserve.
A former Auburn Tiger, Simpson has tons of experience in playing against big-time programs and did so in a variety of spots.
After spending his first four collegiate seasons lined up primarily at boundary corner, Simpson moved to slot corner and safety in 2023 and turned in his best performance. Simpson would finish the season with a career high 4 interceptions along with a top PFF coverage grade of 76.9 and an overall grade of 87.4.
With a banged up and struggling secondary, Simpson may see some action before the Jets season closes out in a few weeks.
Meanwhile, wide receiver/special teams ace Irv Charles was placed on season-ending injured reserve.
