Cimini Confirms Tony Adams Benching Came From Woody

When a list of allegations surfaced regarding Jets owner Woody Johnson following yesterday’s firing of GM Joe Douglas, there was one that stood at as almost being laughably false.  Now Rich Cimini of ESPN New York has corroborated the claim.

Through speaking to team sources, Cimini claims Woody Johnson has in fact begun making game day decisions and ordered the team to bench safety Tony Adams.  Here is the exact excerpt from Cimini’s piece which you can read in full right here.

Johnson had become increasingly meddlesome in personnel matters, multiple people close to the situation said. It was Johnson who demanded the benching of safety Tony Adams for last Sunday’s game against the Indianapolis Colts, they said. It’s highly unusual for an owner to be that involved. Interim coach Jeff Ulbrich offered only a cryptic explanation for the benching, saying, “There’s a lot of different things that went into that and I’d rather not expand on it.”

If true, it’s quite ironic given the fact that one of the biggest plays that led to the Jets blowing a late lead against the Colts came on a blown coverage from safety Jalen Mills.
