In somewhat of a surprise move, the Jets are shipping wide receiver Mike Williams to the Pittsburgh Steelers in exchange for a fifth-round pick in this year’s draft. The move was rumored to be on the horizon ahead of the Jets and Steelers meeting just a couple of weeks ago.
However, any deal was put on hold prior to the two teams meeting in prime time and apparently picked up steam again since that contest.
New York Jets wide receiver Malachi Corley (14) is shown as he prepares for the game, Thursday, October 31, 2024, in East Rutherford.
With Allen Lazard landing on injured reserve last week, some expected Williams to stay put rather than have the team be down two veteran wide receivers. Well, so much for that.
Williams will have to pass his physical first, but once the trade is finalized, the Jets will have to find a body to fill in at receiver.
Expect the team to consider second-year man Jason Brownlee or Brandon Smith. The move could also mean more reps for rookie receiver Malachi Corley.
