Containing Kyler; Jets Have to Stop Murray From Running Wild
The New York Jets have a problem that could see them fall to 3-7 this Sunday if they don’t find away to fix it. Opposing quarterbacks who choose to run against the Jets are having far too much success.
Just look back to two weeks ago against the Patriots when rookie Drake Maye and veteran Jacoby Brissett combined to run for 57 yards and a score on just six attempts. Then this past week, Texans QB CJ Stroud ran it 8 times for 59 yards. That’s a total of 116 yards and a touchdown on just 14 carries.
If Gang Green can’t find a way to get right against the Cardinals, the athletic Murray will likely have an easy time keeping the Jets offense off the field while moving the ball and chewing up clock.
Through nine starts this season, Murray has logged 350 yards and a touchdown. His longest effort was fifty yard TD run that came against the 49ers October sixth.
There are two key things that have to get fixed if Gang Green hopes to avoid watching Murray run them out of the building.
First and foremost the edges have to do a better job of containing. Most of the damage that was done on the ground by the Patriots came on Haason Reddick’s side which didn’t sit well with the defender after former NFL head coach Bill Belichick mentioned in on the Pat McAfee show.
In a since-deleted tweet, Reddick had this to say:
“Aye someone call Bill Belichick and give him a job. Seems like he’s home bored and can’t keep me out of his mouth. Come up for air why don’t ya (no diddy) 😂.”

Reddick didn’t like it, but that doesn’t mean Belichick was wrong.
The second option for Gang Green is to use one of their athletic linebackers (Quincy Williams and/or Jamien Sherwood).
Whatever the Jets opt to do, they’d better get it right or Murray will make them pay.
