With Fotu on Shelf, Three DT’s the Jets Should be Looking at

With the Jets set to take on the San Francisco 49ers in just under two weeks, the team took a big hit on their defensive line when run-stuffing defensive tackle Leki Fotu landed on short-term injured reserve.

New arrival Javon Kinlaw will take up plenty of space in the middle at 325 pounds but Fotu was slated to be the immovable object up front against the run.  If Robert Saleh and Jeff Ulbrich decide they’d like to add some bulk up the middle, there are a few options to consider.

Bryan Mone: The 345 pound Mone was let go by the Seahawks back in March and is there if the Jets are interested.  A veteran of four NFL seasons, all with Seattle, Mone racked up 73 tackles over the 2021 and 2022 seasons.  He then missed a year with injuries before being let go by the Seahawks.

Carl Davis: A veteran journeyman who has played for six teams in nine years, the 335 lb Davis has appeared in 75 career games (19 starts), picking up 68 tackles.

Siaki Ika: Ika being let go by the Browns yesterday came as quite the surprise as he was just drafted with the 98th pick in last year’s draft.  He’s a massive tackle at 6′ 3” 335 and moves extremely well for a player his size.  Being let go this quickly by the Browns does raise some serious questions, but the Jets should at least have him in for a look.
