Jets Practice Squad Tracker; OL Jake Hanson First to Return

The Jets have started putting together their practice squad and have done so with a pair of offensive linemen Jake Hanson and Obinna Eze.

Hanson’s addition was first reported by uStadium and Eze had already obtained a practice squad roster exemption as part of the league’s international pathway program.  Hanson was one of only two Jets linemen this preseason, the other being Carter Warren, to log twenty or more pass pro snaps (23) without allowing a QB pressure, hit or sack.

  • Mr. Irrelevent Jalen Key was the only draft choice not to make the 53 man roster but will return on the team’s practice squad according to Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic.
  • WR Brandon Smith returns after impressive results in limited pre-season action.  The former Iowa Hawkeye made several circus catches for big gains in exhibition action.
  • Running back Xazavian Vallday who spent last year on the Jets practice squad returns for the 2024 season.
  • OL Kohl Levao surprisingly made it through waivers and returns to the Jets.  This was a no brainer as the former UFL product had a fantastic camp.
  • S Lewis Cine, a former first-round pick of the Minnesota Vikings just two seasons ago lands with Gang Green’s practice squad.
  • LB Sam Eguavoen returns after appearing in fifteen games for the Jets last season, primarily on special teams.
  • TE Anthony Firkser is staying with the team after joining them during camp when Nick Bawden was let go.
  • DL Bruce Hector made several impact plays during the preseason but with so many quality linemen to choose from, he didn’t make the 53.
  • DL Jalyn Holmes comes back as a versatile option who can play inside and out.  Another lineman who may have made the cut in previous years.
  • TE Zack Kuntz was less than stellar the preseason but the Jets are still clearly intrigued by his athleticism and high ceiling.
  • QB Adrian Martinez who came over from the UFL had a few brief flashes in camp and the preseason.
  • LB Marcelino McCrary-Ball returns after spending last season moving between the Jets roster and practice squad.
  • WR Lance McCutcheon returns after spending last season on the team’s practice squad.  The 6′ 2” receiver looked like he was going to be a solid pro in his rookie year with the rams a few years back but has done little since then.
  • S Jarius Monroe is a converted cornerback out of Tulane who was the East/West Shrine Bowl defensive MVP.  He could have a future in Green and White.
  • DB Kendall Sheffiled has played both slot and boundary corner as a member of the Falcons when Jets defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich was on the staff.
  • CB Tre Swilling impressed with his coverage and toughness in the preseason which earns him a spot on the practice squad.

All additions made official via the Jets official web site.
