Rough day for Fashanu as Sherwood Shines in Jets Scrimmage

The Jets held their annual Green and White practice today in front of a packed house that saw rookie tackle Olu Fashanu struggle while linebacker Jamien Sherwood stole the show on defense.

Some rough patches for Olu Fashanu according to those in attendance.

While Fashanu has some positive reps against Jermaine Johnson, he was named by several observers at one point for struggling against Jalyn Holmes and later Johnson who, according to Nick Faria, was “starting to rack up wins” against the young tackle.

Meanwhile, Sherwood was all over the field on defense, picking up several stops while being a factor in pass coverage.  Remember, Sherwood did play safety in college at Auburn before moving to linebacker for the Jets, so his cover skills should be better than your average ‘backer.

One of the more concerning notes on the day was the continued struggles of center Joe Tippmann, who at one point launched a snap over Aaron Rodgers’ head that resulted in a loss of over twenty yards.

Practice ended with players getting fired up as Allen Lazard and Brandin Echols had to be separated after some contested pass attempts.  The final attempt would lead to a fantastic leaping catch from Lazard over Echols.

One player whose name we haven’t heard through camp but we mentioned for JetNation the other day, UDFA WR Hamze El-Zayat got some run with Rodgers under center and made some big catches.
