JetNation Prospect Profile: Missouri OT Javon Foster

While the New York Jets are expected to take an offensive tackle at some point early in the NFL draft, another tackle in the middle to later rounds is also a possibility.  While most Jets fans are focused on the likes of Joe Alt, Olu Fashanu and Taliese Fuaga, there are others worth considering later on.  One of those being Missouri’s Javon Foster.

Strengths:

Size: Foster checks in at 6′ 5.5” 314 lbs.  He has very good length with 34 5/8” arms and a total wingspan of 82 3/8”.

Awareness: The tackle consistently keeps his eyes up and does a nice job of picking up stunts and twists.

Level of Competition: Playing in the SEC, Foster as faced and performed well against some of the most dominant defenders in college football.

Pass Protection: His length allows Foster to keep defenders away from his quarterback while he has shown the ability to carry pass rushers around the arc.  Per PFF, Foster allowed just 1 sack on 449 pass block reps in 2023.

Weaknesses:

Agility: Foster’s footwork does look questionable at times and raises questions about his ability to play on the left side as a pro.  While some insiders seem to feel he can, he can certainly work at right tackle and/or guard and still offer value as a mid/late round pick.

Strength: Foster has an aggressive and physical mentality but could benefit from an NFL weight training program.

Outlook: Having added Tyron Smith and  Morgan Moses at left and right tackle respectively, the Jets will still want to add some younger bodies at the position.  If they feel Javon Foster can play multiple positions along the offensive line with at least one of them being a tackle spot, he should garner consideration from Joe Douglas and company.
