JetNation Prospect Profile: Washington OT Roger Rosengarten

Since the end of the 2023 college football season, Washington offensive tackle Roger Rosengarten has been doing himself plenty of favors as he tries to climb draft boards around the league.  Impressive showings at the Senior Bowl and NFL combine should be forcing teams to take a closer look.  With that in mind, we’ll do the same here.

Film Study

Games Watched: Michigan State (2023), Cal (2023), Oregon (2023)

  • Balance: An inconsistent part of his game, Rosengarten does get knocked off balance from time to time and will need to get stronger to avoid this as a pro.
  • Pass Protection: Very good pass protector who could get a look at left tackle at some point.
  • Run Blocking: Not as advanced as his work in pass protection and will need to get better.
  • Lateral Mobility/Athleticism: Excellent athleticism and registered an RAS (Relative Athletic Score) of 9.59.

  • Point of Attack Power: Does show some pop at the point and helps himself by being extremely aggressive, often seeking out pass rushers to initiate contact sooner.
  • Hands: Shows great awareness and ability to counter what opponents are doing.
  • Anchor: One area where pass pro tends to suffer.
  • Strength: Needs improvement at the NFL level.
  • Versatility: As previously mentioned, athletic enough to get a look at both tackle spots and there are those who feel he can or should kick inside to play guard.

Summary:

With a team like the Jets likely to address offensive tackle in the draft, a player like Rosengarten is one to keep an eye on.  He could be a developmental swing tackle at pick 72.  There are those who see him as a day three pick but then some wonder if he can be a round 1 pick.  A better pass protector than run blocker, Rosengarten has some holes in his game but should have time to work through them.
