Hoping to avoid a third consecutive loss, the New York Jets embarrassed themselves against the Buffalo Bills in a 32-6 loss that drops them to 4-6 on the season. Certainly any thoughts of a playoff appearance are out the window. But the more pressing question facing the team is where they go from here with Zach Wilson.
The quarterback was benched early in the third quarter after amassing just 81 yards through the air to go along with a touchdown pass and an ugly interception. It marks the third time Wilson has been benched as the Jets starter but the first this year. Asked who his quarterback would be during his post-game press conference, Robert Saleh would not commit to Wilson or Tim Boyle.
Things started off bad and only got worse for the Jets. Rookie wide receiver Xavier Gipson fumbled away the opening kickoff which set up a field goal for the Bills who went up 3-0. Then the Jets offense couldn’t get out of its own way yet again. Zach Wilson was sacked three times on the Jets first drive as Breece Hall had a dropped pass and Max Mitchell got blown up on a sack.
The Bills would kick two more field goals before Josh Allen hit running back James Cook on a 5-yard touchdown pass to go up 16-0. The Jets would make it 16-6 on a Zach Wilson touchdown pass to Breece Hall but that would be both the beginning and the end of the Jets scoring for the evening.
Meanwhile, Buffalo would see two more Josh Allen TD passes; one to former Jet running back Ty Johnson and an 81-yard catch and run for Khalil Shakir.
A forgettable day for all involved.
