Those calling for Jets rookies and sophomores to get some playing time amidst the team’s offensive struggles look to be getting what they’ve asked for. NFL insider Ian Rapoport is reporting that rookies Xavier Gipson, Israel Abanikanda and Jason Brownlee will see more action today.
Also potentially seeing some targets are second year players Jeremy Ruckert and Irvin Charles. With no pass catchers emerging through the first nine games of the season outside of Garrett Wilson, giving the kids a look is long overdue. Given the number of passes Jets receivers have dropped in recent weeks, taking a look at Brownlee makes sense.
As far as the running game goes, Abanikanda could add some spark to a lifeless run game outside of Breece Hall where Dalvin Cook is averaging just 3.1 yards per carry.
