Jets head coach Robert Saleh has no answer as to why Zach Wilson is still his starting quarterback. Asked during an appearance on ESPN Radio’s The Michael Kay Show, Saleh simply replied “I don’t know” when asked why, despite three years of terrible offensive output, will Siemian not garner some consideration to start.
It’s worth noting that the day before he benched Wilson last season, Saleh told the media that doing so was the “furthest thing” from his mind. So while he may have the signal caller’s back right now, that could change in a hurry.
What would prompt Saleh to make the switch? Another loss like the one the Jets had against the Chargers can’t be allowed to continue as it could be the start of yet another downward spiral. Should Wilson have a solid effort against the Raiders this week then he’s back under center regardless of the outcome. However, if the Jets defense is lights out once again and the offense doesn’t put up enough points to win, Saleh may pull the plug on Wilson once again.
