It would appear the signing of Connor McGovern earlier this week didn’t impact the Jets search for a center as Joe Tippman hears his name called with the 43rd pick to become a New York Jet.
We mentioned Tippman as one of a handful of possibilities for the Jets not long before Gang Green was on the clock and Joe Douglas did in fact pass on Minnesota’s John Michael-Schmitz who many viewed as the top center in this class.
In Tippman, the Jets gets a 6′ 6” 320 pounder who played at a high level over the past two seasons in the Big 10, earing himself respectable grades across the board from PFF.com. Last season, Tippman earned an overall grade of 78.7 while earning marks of 79.2 and 78.3 in pass and run blocking respectively.
Head coach Robert Saleh did say following the pick that Tippman will compete with McGovern for the starting spot, but you have to believe the kid will be an early favorite to get the nod.
