On paper, the Jets appear to have a crowded tackle room with 4 players already on the roster: Duane Brown, Mekhi Becton, Max Mitchell, and Cedric Ogbuehi, recently re-signed by the team. This, however, should not preclude them from taking an offensive tackle if one is available at 13.
New York could view Jones’ inexperience at the position as a positive. He could compete at either tackle spot as a rookie and land anywhere from starting tackle to being the theam’s 2023 swing tackle. Given the number of question marks surrounding the current group in terms of health, it’s likley we’ll see the team’s swing tackle start some games in 2023.
When Brown moves on after this season, the former National Champion could fit as the future left tackle for the franchise. Some have compared Broderick Jones to Jets Ring of Honor legend D’Brickashaw Ferguson, and the comparison from a measurable perspective is unreal. If you are getting even half the play Ferguson offered in the Green & White, Jones would be a slam dunk pick. The Jets also hosted Jones for a private meeting during the lead up to the 2023 NFL Draft.
