Braxton Berrios Sent Packing After Failing to Re-Work Contract
Braxton Berrios is a name that has been floated a fair bit this offseason as a player the Jets could part ways with at some point if the team was looking to free up some cap space. Well, that point in time has come.
Jets are releasing WR Braxton Berrios at the start of the league year next week, per source. The two sides discussed a restructuring of his contract but were unable to reach agreement. His release will save $5 million against Jets’ cap.

According to NFL insider Adam Schefter, the Jets tried to re-work Berrios’ contract but no agreement could be reached. With that being the case, the Jets are parting ways with Berrios to free up $5 million in cap space. This, just one day after creating roughly $4 million in cap room by re-working the contract of tight end CJ Uzomah.
Following a career year in 2021 in which he caught 46 passes for 431 yards and 2 touchdowns, Berrios saw those numbers dip to 18 catches for 145 yards and no touchdowns this season.
Berrios didn’t help his cause later in the season either as he had several mental miscues as a punt returner, giving up valuable field position multiple times.
