Jets Look Lost in 54-13 Blowout Loss to Patriots

The New York Jets have hit rock bottom…or so they hope.  Gang Green made a short trip up to New England to take on the New England Patriots and were beaten up and down the field in every aspect of the game in a humiliating 54-13 loss.  Adding injury to insult, the Jets lost quarterback Zach Wilson to a knee injury as the QB awaits an MRI.

In Wilson’s absence, Mike White made his NFL debut and was hot and cold, throwing a beautiful TD pass to Corey Davis in the back of the end zone on his first attempt but having plenty of ups and downs from that point on.  With so much bad football to dissect, we’re going to hit on some key takeaways.

• For those of us who expected CJ Mosley to be shown the door after this season, yesterday’s loss gives you pause.  Without Mosley on the field, the defense looked completely lost.  Defending the screen pass is something the Jets haven’t done well for decades, but yesterday was one of their worst efforts in recent memory.
• LaMical Perine was dressed yesterday but the team used Ty Johnson in power situations.  If that’s the case, why is Perine even on the roster at this point.
• White threw two INT’s, but at first glance, pick no. 1 looked to have been a high but still catchable ball that Ryan Griffin saw go through his hands.
• The same can be said for Denzel Mims.  Even trailing by multiple touchdowns in the closing minutes, Mims saw just two garbage time targets.  May as well send him to a team that will have some idea as to how to deploy him.
• Because of the final score it’ll be forgotten, but Wilson had actually strung together a few impressive plays before getting knocked out of the game.  The Jets weren’t winning this one by any stretch, but would’ve been nice to see more of Wilson as he started to heat up.
• The defense is still without an interception this season.  Unfathomable.
• Patriots running backs picked up total of 91 receiving yards, helping Mac Jones top 300 yards for the first time in his career.
• Jets linebackers were invisible around the line of scrimmage, leading to safeties Marcus Maye and Ashtyn Davis combining for 23 tackles.
• Del’Shawn Phillips was a rare bright spot, showing great anticipation on the Jets lone sack of the day, blitzing the A-gap and getting to Mac Jones before he knew what hit him.  Phillips finished with 7 tackles in part-time duty.
• If this was the best game plan Mike LaFleur could come up with over the bye, the Jets could be in for a few more games like this one on offense.
• Do you think Marcus Maye still wants to hang around?  Time to do a deal.

With the red hot Cincinnati Bengals up next, things won’t get any easier for the Jets this Sunday.
