Frank Gore to sit out Week 17 After Reaching Personal Milestone

Despite being ranked last on his own team in yards per carry this season, 37-year-old Frank Gore got the majority of carries for the Jets as he and Adam Gase did all they could to get Gore to the 16,000 yard milestone.

Once Gore reached that plateau in the team’s 23-16 victory over the Cleveland Browns yesterday, he took himself out of the game and watched from the sidelines.

With his personal goal being the thing that kept him showing up week after week, Gore is now going to sit out week 17 with what Adam Gase is calling a lung contusion.  An injury that Gore just happened to suffer on the very carry that got him to 16,000 and allowed him to walk away.

So in a season that was supposed to be about developing or evaluating a young quarterback, the Jets head coach decided instead that it would be about Frank Gore and his 3.4 yards per carry achieving a personal goal before he was willing to hang ’em up.

Congrats, Frank.
