This is a major blow to the Jets who were relying on Smith to step up after showing progress toward the end of the 2019 season. With Smith on the shelf and Denzel Mims nursing a bum hamstring, the Jets are without a couple of guys near the top of the depth chart as the season approaches.
With Mims and Smith injured, second-year receiver Jeff Smith has been seeing increased reps on the outside.
