Release of Cornerback Darryl Roberts Easy Decision for Gang Green

The Jets yesterday released cornerback Darryl Roberts in order to free up $6 million in salary cap space without any lingering cap hits for the opening day starter in 2019.

Even with the cupboard being bare at cornerback, Roberts simply didn’t pick up where he left off in 2018 when he had his best stretch as a pro, grading out as one of the league’s better corners according to pro football focus, before being moved to safety to close out the season.  Given the need for cap space and Roberts’ poor performance, this was a no-brainer for Joe Douglas and company.
