Secondary Changes; Darryl Roberts Hurt, Rontez Miles on IR
The turmoil in the secondary continues as the Jets have added safety Rontez Miles to IR. He joins Trumaine Johnson who was placed on IR earlier this week.
Adding to the concerns at cornerback, Darryl Roberts was hurt in practice yesterday (non contact injury calf injury). His status for Sunday against the Giants isn’t known at this time. The Jets did add a cornerback to the roster, former Raven Maurice Canady.
The Jets have claimed CB Maurice Canady on waivers and places S Rontez Miles on injured reserve.
Canady was drafted by the Ravens in the sixth round of the 2016 draft and has spent his entire career with Baltimore. The Virginia product played in four games this season and recorded two tackles before he was waived Tuesday. The 6’1”, 193-pounder has totaled 48 tackles, four pass defenses and one interception in 24 games (2 starts).
Miles played in seven for the Green & White this season but missed last game with neck and hip ailments. The fifth-year pro, one of six team captains, primarily played on special teams and leads the team with seven stops.
Ex-Rutgers CB Blessuan Austin could be in the mix.
CB Darryl Roberts injured his calf Wednesday during practice.
Brian Poole, Arthur Maulet and Maurice Canady, who was claimed off waivers yesterday, could replace him if Roberts can't go vs. Giants.
Jets have to make a decision on rookie CB Blessuan Austin today.
