Jets vs. Colts Post Game Notes

A few random notes, quotes and thoughts following the Jets 42-34 victory against the Indianapolis Colts at MetLife Stadium.

  • Jets Margin of victory in their three wins this season is 19.3
  • Jets Margin of defeat in their three losses this season is 10.3
  • The Jets have taken a lot of heat over the years for going so heavy on defense in the draft.  This year, that finally looks to be paying off.  Darron Lee had his third interception and looks like a different player.  Jamal Adams forced a fumble on a hit that not only knocked the ball loose, but knocked Robert Turbin out of the game.  This of course comes one week after Leonard Williams and Jordan Jenkins combined for 3 sacks against the Broncos.
  • Sam Darnold was sacked just twice and one may have been on the quarterback for bailing on a play too early.  Either way, another solid effort from a unit that was supposed to be one of the worst in the NFL.
  • Sam Darnold praised the team for yet another game that got big plays from all three phases and rightfully so.
  • Chris Herndon’s 32-yard touchdown reception was his first as a pro and the first of many.  Herndon’s ability consistently showed itself in training camp and it was only a matter of time before he started to become a bigger part of the offense.
  • Speaking of Herndon, he and his fellow tight ends continue to do a solid job in pass blocking.  With teams looking to stack the box and pressure Sam Darnold, the tight ends are a big reason why Darnold has been sacked just over twice per game (13 in six games).
  • A win is a win, but it’s slightly alarming that Andrew Luck was able to put up 34 points with a depleted group of weapons on offense.
  • Jets were just 1-5 in the red zone.  That should get better as the season goes on.
  • Avery Williamson also had himself an interception and continues to look like the team’s best offseason acquisition.  Williamson is always around the ball and consistently makes impact plays.
  • Robby Andreson had a beautiful Darnold pass go through his hands in the end zone.  Tough break for Anderson who is re-establishing himself as a home run threat.
  • Marcus Maye reportedly left the stadium with a cast on his right hand and will need X-rays according to head coach Todd Bowles.
  • After Isaiah Crowell earned offensive player of the week honors last week, look for Jason Myers to earn the special teams player of the week this week.

Next up, Kirk Cousins and the Minnesota Vikings.
