Three Free Agents who Would Immediately Improve Gang Green

  1. As we saw last night against the Giants, the Jets are a team that finally looks to have a franchise quarterback and a few additions that should make the 2018 team better than the 2017 version.  Even still, there are holes that need to be plugged and there are a few players without jobs who could provide immediate upgrades in some critical spots.

CB Bashaud Breeland: We’ve mentioned Breeland as a potential target several times this offseason but for some reason, despite a tour that has seemingly taken him to every team in the NFL, Breeland remains unsigned.  Adding Breeland would be an immediate upgrade over Buster Skrine and provide insurance for any possible injuries.  Not a bad thing considering Morris Claiborne’s history.  If the Jets were to part ways with Skrine (not that they would have to), the team would take on a $2.5 million cap hit with a $6 million savings.

LB Junior Galette: Galette is a couple of years removed from his best seasons as a pass rusher.  But last night’s effort from Gang Green was scary bad in terms of pressure off the edge.  Eli Manning was unmolested in the pocket as the first team defense didn’t generate a single sack.

LT Will Beatty: The Jets can’t go in to this season with Brent Qvale as their second-string tackle as we mentioned here.  An upgrade is needed and Beatty will likely provide it.  If not Beatty, Mike Maccagnan has to go out and find a tackle via trade or waiver wire.

Some other options could emerge as teams cut down from 90 players to 53, but if the Jets want to make some immediate upgrades now, this wouldn’t be a bad time to pick up the phone.
