Jets Climbing NFL Draft Board

They say that every cloud has a silver lining, and in a season that will not include the playoffs or any lengthy look at a quarterback who doesn’t require an afternoon nap, Jets fans can take solace in the fact that if things keep going as they are at the moment, Gang Green will be own a premium pick in the upcoming draft.

According to the folks over at ESPN, the Jets are currently slated to pick sixth overall, and with just one “winnable” game left on the schedule (Denver), the Jets may not stray far from that sixth pick as the season winds down.

Should they land in (or near) that spot, Mike Maccagnan should be calling up 49ers GM John Lynch and give him whatever necessary to move up to the number two pick.  Asking San Francisco to move back just four spots with some extra first and second round picks added to the mix shouldn’t be all that difficult.

Then of course, there are the Cleveland Browns at number one, a spot they should be using to take a franchise quarterback.  However, if the Browns thought Carson Wentz wasn’t a top-20 talent, they may not view this year’s class as being of NFL caliber.  May as well give them a call too, Mac.

Either way, unless the Jets pull out a few unexpected late-season victories, they may be inching closer to getting a franchise quarterback than they have in decades.
