The news became official on Monday, Jeremy Kerley is suspended for the next four games. Kerley is having a productive season as the 3rd wide receiver and he also serves as the Jets punt returner.
The answer is a bunch of first-year players and that is a good thing. The Jets are in the middle of a rebuild and they are exceeding expectations so far. Finding the balance between winning games and developing talent is important. The Kerley suspension will give the Jets a chance to look at several young players.
Todd Bowles kept open the possibility of bringing in another receiver. The team has known that this suspension was looming, so they have had time to plan. The answers though are already on the roster in ArDarius Stewart and Chad Hansen. Coach Bowles confirmed that both players will get extended looks the next few weeks.
Stewart has 4 catches for 36 yards on the season. While Hansen is still looking for his first reception. Getting some experience for these rookies will hopefully prove to be valuable. If not the Jets will know what they have in the young wideouts as the move towards next year.
Elijah McGuire seems to be the logical choice but coach Bowles wouldn’t confirm their plans for the punt return team.
Too early right now. We have to work through some gymnastics before we get to start practicing on Wednesday and Thursday and see where they go.
