#28 New York Jets (3-7): Ryan Fitzpatrick will be under center again this week after Bryce Petty had his one-and-done debut. There isn’t much left to say at this point that hasn’t already been said, once the Jets are officially eliminated from contention there is no reason to keep Petty on the bench. Fitzpatrick will likely be gone next season, and the Jets need to see what they have in Petty. It sounds like Christian Hackenberg will need another season on the bench, meaning it will be Petty and someone else. If Petty can excel down the stretch, it could be the difference between the Jets attempting to acquire Tony Romo or signing a stopgap QB like Brian Hoyer. If Petty struggles, the Jets will likely make a push for a starting caliber quarterback. The only advantage Fitzpatrick has over Petty is experience, but is winning one or two more close games worth missing the chance to audition a potential future quarterback? If the Jets lose at home to the New England Patriots on Sunday, the pressure will be even greater for Todd Bowles to turn back to Petty.
