After losing starting running back Chris Ivory to the Jacksonville Jaguars in free agency, the New York Jets are rumored to be interested in former Chicago Bears running back Matt Forte according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
While finding the salary cap room to sign a player of Forte’s stature will be challenging for the cash-strapped Jets who are roughly $6 million under, they likely see him as a more valuable asset than Ivory as he’s managed to stay healthy throughout the course of his 8 pro seasons while Ivory has had some ill-timed injuries.
In addition, Forte is a far greater threat as a receiver out of the backfield, having logged 487 receptions for 4,116 in his career, to Ivory’s 50 catches for 350 yards in six seasons.
