Could Bradford, Cousins Developments Impact Gang Green?

By Glenn Naughton

There are some light rumblings regarding quarterbacks that Jets fans may want to keep an eye on as free agency approaches.

It’s still very early, but a pair of signal callers who reportedly drew interest from the Jets last season may be available in the coming weeks while their own free agent, Ryan Fitzpatrick, will likely try to work something out with the Jets himself.

Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins has reportedly halted contract negotiations with the Redskins who may be hesitant to pay top-5 money to the quarterback which is what would be required if they were to slap him with the franchise tag.

If you recall, Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reported that one of the first phone calls GM Mike Maccagnan made following the infamous Geno Smith/IK Enemkpali locker room knockout was to the Redskins to check on the availability of the QB.

In a similar development, another NFC East QB whom the Jets were linked to last off-seasonSam Bradford of the Philadelphia Eagles, may hit free agency as well.

The Eagles are reportedly going to take a pass on paying big bucks for Bradford who had a strong second half last season and is rumored to be seeking upwards of $20 million per season.  It’s difficult to envision and injury prone quarterback who has been largely underwhelming as a pro getting that type of money, so if he does in fact hit the market and his asking price comes back down to earth, will the Jets pounce?

We may know soon enough.
