The New York Jets continued addressing their most pressing needs with their third-round pick (82nd overall) in choosing Louisville outside linebacker Lorenzo Mauldin.
At 6′ 4”, 259 lbs Mauldin spent three seasons at Lousiville where he amassed 20.5 sacks and 31 tackles for loss at defensive end early in his career before moving to outside linebacker as a senior when Louisville went from a 4-3 to a 3-4 defense.
Given the Jets’ approach toward adding versatility this offseason, Mauldin seems like a logical fit. CBSsports.com had this to say about Mauldin:
Mauldin is an intense, confident player with a relentless motor that makes him a chore to block. He has some tweener traits and has skills that will be attractive for both schemes, but is probably best suited adding weight and playing with his hand on the ground.
Perhaps the most eye-opening stat is the number of foster homes Mauldin spent time in. After entering foster care at the age of two, he would go on to spend time in sixteen different homes throughout his lifetime.
