Post Game Notes

Captains:

#26 S Dawan Landry, #52 LB David Harris, #60 T D’Brickashaw Ferguson, and #97 LB Calvin Pace.

NFL Debut:

2014 sixth-round draft pick WR Quincy Enunwa made his NFL debut in his first game on the active roster and saw action on special teams.

Geno Smith:

In the victory, QB Geno Smith set new single-game career-bests in yards (358), a perfect passer rating of 158.3, tied a career-best with three touchdown passes, and third-best in completion percentage (20-of-25, 80.0%). Smith became the first quarterback since Ken O’Brien in Week 16 of 1990 to lead his team to victory and finish with a perfect rating of 158.3.

Smith registered his most efficient start to a game in his two-year NFL career when he completed his first eight passes for 125 yards, one touchdown, zero interceptions, and a perfect 158.3 passer rating.

In the third quarter, Smith hooked up with WR Eric Decker for a 74-yard touchdown that cut the MIA lead to 24-21. The 74-yard touchdown pass set a new career-long for Smith and marked the franchise’s longest pass play since the 2009 AFC Championship Game at IND (1/24/10), when WR Braylon Edwards caught an 80-yard touchdown from Mark Sanchez.

Smith, playing in his hometown of Miami, FL, led his team to victory for the second time in as many games in his career at Sun Life Stadium.

Eric Decker:

Decker finished the game with 10 receptions for 221 yards and one touchdown, setting a new personal single-game career-high in receiving yards. His 221 receiving yards on the day marks the second most by Jets receiver in franchise history and sixth-time a Jet receiver has eclipsed the 200-yard mark. The most receiving yards in team history was set in 1968 at OAK (11/17) by Don Maynard, when he caught 10 passes for 228 receiving yards and one touchdown.

With the Jets trailing 24-14, Smith hit Decker for a 74-yard touchdown catch-and-run, the longest reception of his NFL career. The 74-yard touchdown put Decker over 100 yards receiving on the day, his second 100-yard performance in the last three games.

Rushing the Passer:

DL Muhammad Wilkerson, LB Demario Davis, LB David Harris, LB Quinton Coples and DL Sheldon Richardson combined to record seven sacks of QB Ryan Tannehill. The seven sacks marked the most by a Jet team in the series history against MIA, and the fifth time in 2014 the Jets recorded at least four in a game. For the season, the Jets defense totaled 45 sacks in 2014, the most by the team since the 1998 season when the team also recorded 45 sacks.

Sheldon Richardson:

2014 Curtis Martin Team MVP, Richardson, added to his single-season career-best sack total after bringing down Tannehill for a loss of five yards in the second quarter. He led the team in sacks (8.0) and quarterback hurries (49) this season.

David Harris:

Harris notched 2.5 total sacks in the win to set a new single-season career-best with 6.0 sacks. Inside three minutes left in the game, Harris strip-sacked Tannehill, which was recovered by Demario Davis and led to K Nick Folk’s third field goal of the game.

Quinton Coples:

Third-year LB Coples, tallied two sacks at MIA, both in the fourth quarter, to tie his single-game best in sacks. In the 2014 campaign, Coples totaled 6.5 sacks, surpassing his previous single-season career high of 5.5, which he set in his rookie season.

Chris Owusu:

With 3:11 remaining in the first quarter, WR Chris Owusu scored his first touchdown as a Jet, and first-career rushing touchdown, on a 23-yard end around that gave the team a 7-3 lead. The score capped a six-play, 78-yard drive that began with a 36-yard reception by Owusu. Owusu also served as Jets kickoff returner and returned the second half opening kickoff 87 yards.

Chris Ivory:

In the second quarter, the Jets regained the lead, 14-10, on RB Chris Ivory’s eight-yard touchdown pass from Smith. It was Ivory’s first-career touchdown reception and he finished the game with 29 rushing yards on 13 carries. This season, Ivory set career bests in rushing attempts (198), rushing yards (821), rushing touchdowns (6), receptions (18), and receiving yards (123).

Demario Davis:

In the fourth quarter, Davis sacked Tannehill for a loss of seven yards and increased his single-season career-best sack total to 3.5. For the game, David finished with four tackles, one sack and one fumble recovery.

Fake Punt:

On 4th-and-12 in the fourth quarter and the Jets on their own 39-yard line, the punt team successful converted a fake punt for a first down when P Ryan Quigley connected with TE Zach Sudfeld for a 38-yard reception. One play later, Smith threw a 23-yard touchdown pass to TE Jeff Cumberland to increase the Jets lead to 34-24. The last time the Jets converted a fake punt for a first down was in 2012.
