Camp Notes – 08/05

Rex Ryan wasn’t happy with the Jets training camp practice on Monday, he referred to the team as “running in sand”. They held a 90-minute scrimmage on Saturday night and were still sluggish on Monday. Today is the team’s final practice before the pre-season opener against the Colts, the coaching staff definitely was hoping for a bounce-back day for the team as a whole.

Full pads were on the shelf with the team coming out in just shells today.

Rookie WR Shaq Evans who has struggled to make an impression thus far in camp, was wearing the red non-contact Jersey.

Seth Walder also spotted an unfamiliar “Campbell” wearing #69 that wasn’t listed in the program. As it turned out, the Jets had signed OL Bruce Campbell, a former fourth round pick of the Oakland Raiders out of Maryland to replace Jermaine Cunningham after suffering a season-ending injury. Interesting tie in to former Jet Mike Goodson. After struggling in Oakland, Goodson is the player Carolina shipped to Oakland to acquire Campbell, who was considered by some analysts to be a top-10 talent. Most recently, Campbell was cut loose by the Redskins on March 12th for failing a team physical.

After visiting the trainers early in practice, #3 RB Bilal Powell joined 7-on-7 drills wearing a compression sleeve while rookie TE Jace Amaro looked good running routes per WFAN’s Chris Lopresti.

According to Seth Walder, Jeremy Kerley was absent from practice. No explanation was noted by Walder.

Taking advantage of some “down time” during special teams walk through, WR’s Decker, Hill and Nelson take some time on the side to put in a little extra work.
