Jets Make Roster Moves

As the Jets prepare to start training camp, they announced a few roster moves today.  They are bringing in some competition at kicker to keep Nick Folk on his toes.  Here is the press release from the team that outlines these moves.

The New York Jets have signed free agent K Billy Cundiff, LS Pat Scales and T Jeffrey Shugarts and released K Brett Maher, WR Thomas Mayo, and T Mark Popek.

Cundiff (K/6-1/212/Drake/Phoenix, AZ) has kicked for the Dallas Cowboys, New Orleans Saints, Cleveland Browns, Baltimore Ravens and Washington Redskins in his career. He was selected to the 2010 Pro Bowl and was named First-Team All Pro in 2010 after making 26-of-29 field goals (89.7%) on the season. He has made 139-of-184 career field goal attempts (75.5%) with a career long of 56 yards and has made 12-of-14 career postseason field goal attempts (85.7%) with a playoff long of 48 yards. He was originally signed by the Cowboys in 2002 after playing his college career at Drake.

Scales (LS/6-4/248/Utah State/North Ogden, UT) entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Baltimore Ravens following the 2011 NFL Draft.

Shugarts (T/6-6/299/Ohio State/Klein, TX) originally entered the NFL with the Cleveland Browns as an undrafted free agent following the 2012 NFL Draft and spent the 2012 season on the Browns and Buffalo Bills practice squads.

Maher (K/6-0/185/Nebraska/Kearney, NE) signed with the Jets as an undrafted free agent following the 2013 NFL Draft.

Mayo (WR/6-2/205/California (PA)/Reston, VA) signed with the Jets in 2013 after spending 2012 training camp with the Oakland Raiders.

Popek (T/6-7/308/South Florida/Plant City, FL) joined the Jets as an undrafted free agent following the 2013 NFL Draft.
