Travis is the son of former professional basketball player and New York Knicks analyst Kelly Tripucka but was a long shot to beat out incumbent Tanner Purdum.
The transaction was necessary to add recently signed tight end Kellen Winslow as the Jets then had a 91 man roster and the limit is 90.
