NY Jets 6/5 OTA Practice Recap

The New York Jets continue their offseason practices today, which wrap up tomorrow, with mandatory minicamp taking place June 11-13. 

The quarterback competition was on again and while neither QB took control Mark Sanchez was 9-of-19 (47% COMP) while Geno Smith went 5-of-9

(55% COMP) with an interception:


The biggest story of the day, which seems to be a continuation from last season, injuries to the wide receivers:






Head coach Rex Ryan said that WR Santonio Holmes could start the season on the active Physically Unable to Perform List (PUP):

“Of course Santonio, we’ll see…he’s doing a decent job but we’ll see how he is for training camp,” said Ryan. “There’s a possibility maybe he starts out on PUP, I’m not sure. Seems to be doing well.”

Looks like the veterans are still holding off the younger competition at the guard position as Willie Colon and Stephan Peterman continue to work with the first team:

On the defensive side Quinton Coples continued his transition from defensive end to outside linebacker while cornerback Darrin Walls had a nice day:


Former special teams coach Mike Westhoff was at practice observing undrafted rookie WR Zack Rogers field kickoffs:
