Quarterback David Garrard Knee Injury Forcing Retirement From Jets
According to NFL.com veteran quarterback David Garrard will not remain a member of the New York Jets this season:
The New York Jets have consistently said all offseason they will hold a genuine competition at quarterback this offseason. It’s a competition that many folks thought David Garrard could win, if he stayed healthy.
But it appears Garrard will not be around long enough to find out. NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport reported Wednesday that Garrard told two players he no longer was with the team. Nothing official has been confirmed from the team, but Garrard spoke with NFL.com’s Jeff Darlington.

It appears that Garrard has not recovered from a past knee injury to compete for the job and he may end up retiring. JetNation will bring updates as they become available.
RT @AdamSchein Garrard: "Having to call it quits. My knee is not holding up. Continuing to swell after practices. Limiting what I can do."
