Jets Resign OLB Calvin Pace

According to ESPN’s NFL reporter Adam Schefter the New York Jets have brought linebacker Calvin Pace back after releasing him earlier this year:

Pace a ten-year NFL veteran had played for the Jets since the 2008 season.  Going on 33, Pace had 55 tackles along with 3 sacks last year with the team.   The combination of his age and high salary made him a prime candidate to be released which he was in February of this year.

Even with the recent addition of linebacker Antwan Barnes the Jets remain thin at the position.  While terms have not been disclosed it is likely Pace has been brought back under a “Veterans Minimum” contract and will count $620,000 on the Jets salary cap while Pace receives $1.005 million in compensation.

There had been little interest shown by other teams for Pace since his release and while his roster spot is not a given his resigning does add some depth at a position of need.   Antwan Barnes and Garrett McIntyre were the only players on the Jets roster with starting experience at outside linebacker before the addition of Pace.

It is likely the Jets will look to bolster this position in the upcoming NFL draft.
