The New York Jets made a few roster moves today, here is the press release from the team:
The New York Jets have signed DE Jay Richardson and S DeAngelo Smith. The announcements were made by General Manager Mike Tannenbaum.
Richardson (DE/6-6/280/Ohio State/Dublin, OH) is a former fifth-round pick of the Oakland Raiders in the 2007 NFL Draft. He spent his first three seasons in Oakland, playing in all 48 games before being waived (09/10/10). He signed with the Seattle Seahawks (11/03/10) and appeared in seven games. For his career, Richardson has appeared in 55 games, with 22 starts and has posted 86 tackles, seven sacks and two passes defensed. He did not play in the NFL last season.
Smith (S/5-11/200/Cincinnati/Columbus, OH) entered the NFL as fifth-round selection of the Dallas Cowboys in the 2009 draft. He was waived by Dallas following training camp, and claimed by the Cleveland Browns (09/06/09), before again being waived and claimed by the Chicago Bears (09/17/09). He later joined the Bears practice squad (10/06/09), before signing with the Detroit Lions (11/18/09) and playing the final seven games of the regular season, including one start. Following the season, he was waived by Detroit (04/27/10), claimed by Cleveland (04/27/10) and signed to their practice squad (09/06/10). He attended training camp with the Browns in 2011 before being waived (09/04/11).
