A Look At The NY Jets Depth Chart
On Wednesday the New York Jets released the team’s depth chart, which of course is subject to change (mostly 2 and 3rd string places), as training camp progresses.
OFFENSE
QB: Mark Sanchez, Mark Brunell, Greg McElroy, Drew Willy – No surprises here
RB: Shonn Greene, LaDainian Tomlinson, Joe McKnight, Bilal Powell, Chris Jennings- Jets loaded at rb position almost to a point where it could hurt rookie Powell in terms of playing time.
C: Nick Mangold, Robby Felix, Zane Taylor – Mangold goes down I could see Turner or Hunter filling in.
LG: Matt Slauson, Chris Stewart, Taylor Boggs
LT: D’Brickashaw Ferguson, Dennis Landolt, Curtis Duron
RG: Brandon Moore, Robert Turner, Matt Kroul- Note Moore is still on the PUP list.
TE: Dustin Keller, Matthew Mulligan, Jeff Cumberland, Josh Baker-Heading into training camp several players mentioned Cumberland as a breakout candidate.
WR: Santonio Holmes, Derrick Mason, Patrick Turner, Scotty McKnight, Dan DePalma
WR: Plaxico Burress, Jeremy Kerley, Logan Payne, Michael Campbell, Courtney Smith- Keep an eye on Campbell, the speedy wideout seems to make plays every day in practice.
FB: John Conner, Brian Toal – Conner is going to have his hands full replacing Tony Richardson.
DEFENSE
DE: Muhammad Wilkerson, Ropati Pitoitua, Jarron Gilbert-Wilkerson was named the starter but Ropatit could see some serious playing time.
NT: Sione Pouha, Kenrick Ellis, Martin Tevaseu – Great rotation with Pouha and Ellis.
DT: Mike DeVito, Marcus Dixon, Lorenzo Washington, Carlton Powell
OLB: Bryan Thomas, Jamaal Westerman, Stafford Gatling – Westerman has been labeled “designated pass rusher”. Hopefully Jamaal can fill those shoes.
WLB: Bart Scott, Josh Mauga, Brashton Satele, David Herron- The Jets were high on Satele last year it will be interesting to see what he can do.
MLB: David Harris, Nick Bellore, Joey LaRocque, Matthias Berning- Bellore has been the talk of camp early on.
OLB: Calvin Pace, Garrett McIntyre, Eddie Jones, Brandon Long- Would not be surprised to see a veteran added for depth
CB: Darrelle Revis, Kyle Wilson, Donald Strickland, Richard Taylor- Raised expectations for Wilson.
CB: Antonio Cromartie, Marquice Cole, Julian Posey, Ellis Lankster- Cole could see a lot of playing time in Nickel and Dime situations
S: Eric Smith, Brodney Pool, Emanuel Cook, Davon Morgan- Love the depth here
S: Jim Leonhard, Dwight Lowery, Byron Landor, DaJuan Morgan – From all reports Leonhard is close to 100% healthy
SPECIAL TEAMS
K: Nick Folk, Nick Novak -Novak has outperformed Folk early on
P: T.J. Conley, Chris Bryan-Westhoff seems to be enamored with Bryan
PR: Jeremy Kerley, Kyle Wilson, Joe McKnight- For whatever reason rookie returners make me nervous.
KR: Jeremy Kerley, Kyle Wilson, Antonio Cromartie, Joe McKnight
LS: Tanner Purdum, Wilson Raynor, Matthew Mulligan
In terms of the depth chart there are truly no surprises at this point, hopefully the team can remain relatively injury free for the remainder of camp.
