Jets sign Pool; Derrick Mason next?
1) Pool returns- On Wednesday the New York Jets re-signed safety Brodney Pool. The terms of the deal have not been disclosed but it is believed to be a one-year deal. This is a solid move by the Jets as Pool played very well towards end of last season. Brodney will provide solid depth to the Jets secondary.
2) Mason to the Jets? There are several reports circulating that the New York Jets will be bringing in veteran wide receiver Derrick Mason for a physical on Thursday. There are some rumors that if Mason passes his physical Gang Green will promptly sign the 37-year old pass catcher.
This is an interesting move by the Jets as it could spell the end for fan favorite Jerricho Cotchery who is recovering from back surgery. Mason is a reliable receiver known for his toughness and leadership (sounds like Cotchery no?) and could provide the Jets with a good security blanket while Plaxico shakes off the rust.
3) Jets offer Ellis deal- The New York Jets have reportedly offered veteran lineman Shaun Ellis a one-year deal at the veteran minimum, which is believed to be $910,000. As of now Ellis, the longest tenured member of the Jets, is said to be exploring his options.
This is a deal that I think the Jets have to make and I would not be surprised to see the team raise their offer. Ellis was arguably the Jets best pass rusher last year and had the best game of his career against the Patriots in the playoffs. Shaun would be an excellent mentor to the Jets rookie linemen while adding depth and strength to the position.
4) Training camp schedule released- The remainder of the Jets training camp schedule has been released and can be found here.
