There are several published reports that the NFL owners and players have agreed to a 10-year labor agreement that will end the lockout. The final step in the process will occur on Monday when the players will have to vote on and approve the agreement, which is considered to be a formality at this point.
As of now there have not been any confirmed dates and times for the beginning of the new league year and free agency.
From the Jets perspective some things to keep an eye on once the agreement is approved:
1) Exclusive negotiating window- Will the Jets have a 3-day window to exclusively negotiate with their free agents?
2) Training camp start date- When will Gang Green be taking the field in Florham Park?
3) Dead money- How will the league be handling dead money from the 2010 season? This number could have a serious impact on the Jets salary cap and the team’s ability to re-sign players.
4) Veteran exemptions- There have been reports that teams will be allowed exemptions to re-sign some of their own players. Will there be exemptions and what are the parameters around them?
