Jets vs. Texans preview
On Sunday the New York Jets (7-2) take on the Houston Texans (4-5) at the New Meadowlands Stadium (1pm EST). The Jets are coming off of two nerve-wracking overtime victories, while the Texans come limping in after losing to the Jaguars on the last play of the game. Lets take a look at some of the keys to the game.
Offense
1) Air Sanchez- The Houston Texans pass defense is absolutely dreadful as they are ranked last in the NFL giving up over 300 yards a game. Gang Green should come out aggressive through the air and take some big shots down the field. Once the Houston defense is loosened up by the passing game, the Jets can then use their ground and pound to finish off the game.
2) Contain Mario Williams- The Texans do not have many threats on defense, but when it comes to pressuring the quarterback defensive end Mario Williams is one of the best (5.5 sacks on the season). Gang Green must remain aware of Williams at all times and slide protection to his side as necessary.
Defense
1) Stop Foster- The Texans ground game (ranked 7th in the NFL) is built around running back Arian Foster who has 920 rushing yards along with 10 touchdowns. The Jets must find ways to contain Foster, more than likely with a run blitz, to make the Texans offense one dimensional.
2) Johnson vs. Revis- Texans receiver Andre Johnson is arguably one of the best in the NFL and Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis must find a way to slow him down. Last year Revis held Johnson to 4 catches for 35 yards and the same type of performance is needed this Sunday.
Prediction
The Jets will be returning home to a raucous crowd and I expect the team to come out with some high energy. Gang Green should be able to move the ball up and down the field on the Texans. Defensively the Jets should be able to get to quarterback Matt Schaub as the offensive line has already given up 21 sacks. This game could be over heading into the fourth quarter. Jets 34-17
