1) Let the trap game talk begin- The New York Jets started off the season playing against 3 teams that many consider to be playoff contenders. Now in week 4 Gang Green is set to face the winless Buffalo Bills, which has many screaming trap game. There is definitely a chance of an emotional letdown for the Jets, and it is up to Rex Ryan and the team leaders to keep the team focused. The Bills are a division rival and always seem to find a way to get a season split with the Jets.
2) Revis to play? Based on Rex Ryan’s comments I have a funny feeling Darrelle will be sitting out one more week to make sure he is 100% healthy. It is better to be safe than sorry, and I am guessing the Jets feeling is that their defense can hold their own against the Bills without Revis.
3) Pace possible? Rex Ryan seemed to be a little more positive about Calvin Pace returning, which is good news on two fronts. First off Pace is an excellent pass rusher, which makes the Jets defense that more dangerous. Secondly the return of Pace can start to reduce Jason Taylor’s workload in order to preserve him for the full season. Taylor has been outstanding and can be that more effective platooning with Pace.
4) Shonn Greene fine– Ryan stated in Monday’s press conference that running back Shonn Greene appeared to be fine and that he is not concerned about an injury. Definitely keep an eye on this situation as Greene has battled the injury bag in the past. The last thing the Jets want is to have LaDainian Tomlinson getting 25-30 carries a game. I wonder how rookie Joe McKnight is progressing?
5) Westerman doubtful- Rex stated in his press conference that linebacker Jamaal Westerman suffered either an ankle or hamstring injury and that he is likely doubtful for Sunday’s game. This injury leaves the Jets somewhat thin at the linebacker position.
6) Secondary play- The Jets secondary was lit up by the Dolphins and much of that was attributed to “communication issues”. The Jets are starting 3 new players in the secondary (Cromartie, Wilson, Pool) and are still working out the kinks. Hopefully these kinks are worked out before Gang Green takes on the likes of the Green Bay Packers.
7) Sanchez criticism- Last year quarterback Mark Sanchez was scrutinized for almost everything he did on the field. Whether it was his sliding head first, his emotional state on the field, or his decision making, every analyst ripped the kid. These past 2 days I watched Eli Manning mope all over the field, numerous quarterbacks (including Rodgers,Vick,Young,Romo) slide head first, and several “veteran” quarterbacks (Manning,Cutler, Orton,Rivers) make horrific throws. Maybe Sanchez is not so bad after all.
